ENTROPIoN REPAIR

ENTROPIoN REPAIR

(SURGICAL CORRECTION OF INWARDLY TURNED EYELID)

An entropion is an inwardly turned (inverted) eyelid. The condition occurs primarily as a result of aging which causes the weakening of certain eyelid muscles. The imbalance between certain eyelid muscle groups results in the inward turning of the eyelid. This condition almost always affects the lower eyelid.

Entropion can cause chronic irritation to the eye and eyelid. This can result in the following symptoms:

  • Excess tearing

  • Crusting of the eyelid and mucus discharge

  • A feeling that something is in the eye

  • Irritation of the cornea

  • Impaired vision

TREATMENT

Entropion repair is an outpatient surgical procedure that lasts around 15-20 minutes per eye. The surgeon repairs the eyelid with a small incision just beneath the lower lashes and will then proceed to tighten the tissues to resolve the imbalance between muscle groups of the lower lid. Typically, there is an almost immediate resolution of the condition.
